At the request of U.S. Senators Tom Daschle and Tom Harkin, the following National Plan to Advance Integrated Health Care was drafted in March 1999 by representatives of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians, the American Association for Health Freedom, Bastyr University, and former U.S. Rep. Berkley Bedell.

A wide range of experts in key topic areas were consulted during drafting of the report. With an eye on identifying national public policy solutions, the authors address issues ranging from research and education through clinical practice, quality of care and delivery systems. A copy of the Plan has been circulated to key Members of Congress, the White House Commission on Complementary and Alternative Medicine Policy, as well as interested stakeholders. The authors' intentions are to hold a policy summit in 2001 to produce a consensus document based on the Plan, which can be used by stakeholders as well as policy makers to direct and coordinate national policy affecting the integration and advancement of CAM.

Visitors to this site should feel free to print and share the National Plan with colleagues, so long as the source is attributed, and the material is not sold.
