On May 21, 2003, we held the First Annual Women Supporting Health Freedom Luncheon. Wellness Health and Pharmacy, owned by AAHF Treasurer Rod Harbin, sponsored the event. The luncheon was held at the fabulous home of Peter and Maryam Garahan in Great Falls , Vriginia. As guests arrived, they received a beautiful program, a purple looped awareness ribbon to commemorate the Health Freedom Foundation and a gift bag which included Dr. Shari Lieberman's book, Get off the Menopause Roller Coaster, a full size bottle of WellnessMulti 1 from Wellness, a 4 oz tube of Pro-Gest body cream from Emerita, french milled soap and lip balm from Whole Foods, a 2 oz. bottle of Unique Sweet from VRP, and sample supplements from Optimum Health.

After everyone had a chance to mingle and enjoy a champagne cocktail with their hors d'oeuvres, Candace Campbell welcomed the 45 guests, acknowledged the sponsors and shared the mission and vision of the Health Freedom Foundation and AAHF. As dessert was being served, we gave the guests another opportunity to purchase raffle tickets to win one of four donated baskets (one each from Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, Dr. Shari Lieberman & Dr. Stephen Sinatra). Next, AAHF President Dr. Lieberman spoke about natural alternatives in women's health, focusing on menopause, nutrition and weight loss. Guest then heard from Angie Chatwood, an I.V. Certified Compounding Pharmacist with Wellness Health & Pharmacy, who spoke about the role of compounding pharmacies. The audience was hanging on to every word and bombarded them both with question after question.

In addition to Wellness Health & Pharmacy’s generous support, we received a significant contribution from Emerita. A local caterer provided a fabulous lunch at cost, and a local event company donated all the equipment. A local florist donated all the centerpiece; Trinket Depot donated the purple enamel looped awareness ribbons; and TP Design donated the design and printing of the programs and sponsorship signs.

The goal of this exclusive event was to raise awareness about the Foundation and connect with people in the area who could help us in the future, either with contributions, volunteer time or contacts. As we had hoped, it turned out to be a wonderful opportunity for us to expand our network right in our own backyard, and educate an influential group of women about our work and the need to reassert our health freedom.

Plans are currently underway for the Second Annual Women Supporting Health Freedom event. If you are interested in more information or would like to volunteer your services, please contact Tricia Fischer, Director or Development at 703-404-6937 or tricia@healthfreedom.net.

Silent Auction

The Health Freedom Foundation held a Silent Auction on May 17, 2003 during the American College for Advancement in Medicine's conference in Washington, D.C. It was scheduled during their reception in the vendor hall, so lots of conferees cruised by to check out the items and place their bids. We had quite a range of items - compact discs from political comedian Mark Russell, gift baskets of homeopathic baby items and supplements, artwork, wine, condos in Maui, Florida and Lake Tahoe - something for everyone.

We owe a special thanks to all the individuals and companies who made this event possible by donating auction items and we will plan to have another event in the future. For additional information or to donate an item in the future, please contact Tricia Fischer, Director of Development at 703-404-6937 or tricia@healthfreedom.net.
